How to earn on Threads: four ways that work
A breakdown of ways to earn on Threads — your own product, ads, affiliate programs and traffic. With an honest take on what each one takes.
There are no payouts from the platform on Threads. People earn in four ways, and they take different things.
1. Your own product or service
The fastest path to money, because you don't need a large audience. It's enough for the people who need you to find you.
It works like this: you comment on discussions in your field, show competence, and a person comes to your profile and understands how you can help.
What you need: something to sell and a profile that explains it.
Entry bar: low — first orders are possible with a hundred followers.
The main mistake: selling in the comments. An ad under someone else's post is annoying — what works is expertise, not the offer.
2. Ads on your page
Once the audience is built, others pay for posts.
What you need: a live audience with response. An advertiser looks not at the follower count but at replies and discussion.
Entry bar: high — it's months of work.
How much: the niche sets the price. An account with a narrow professional audience is worth more than an entertainment one with the same numbers.
3. Affiliate programs
You recommend a service through your link and get a percentage of every payment from people who came through you.
What you need: the audience's trust. Not size — trust specifically.
Entry bar: the lowest of all — you need neither your own product nor large reach.
The catch: recommend only what you use yourself. One bad recommendation costs more than everything you'd earn from it.
The range of rewards is wide. A market benchmark is 10 to 30% of a payment, and there are two kinds: a one-time payout on the first purchase and a lifetime one — a percentage of every renewal for as long as the client pays. The second is worth many times more: one referred person brings income month after month.
In our own affiliate program, for example, it's 20% for life: a client on the $50 plan brings the partner $10 every month for as long as they use the service.
4. Traffic to other platforms
Threads as a source of people for a Telegram channel, a website, a shop or a course.
What you need: a place to send people and a reason to go there.
Entry bar: medium.
Important: the platform shows posts with links worse. Better to keep the link in your profile and give a reason in posts to go there.
What all four have in common
The audience. Until it exists, none of the ways work — and this is where most people stop.
Growth on Threads rests on daily comments in other people's discussions: a person sees your reply, goes to your profile, follows. Thirty meaningful comments a day is two or three hours of work, and holding that pace by hand for months is nearly impossible.
So the sensible order is this: first set up a daily presence — on your own or with a tool — and only then choose which of the four ways to take the money.
