Is there monetization on Threads and how people earn there
Does Threads pay creators, which ways of earning on the platform actually work, and where to start if your account is still small.
Short answer: there are no direct payouts for views on Threads — at least for most countries. The platform doesn't pay creators for reach the way YouTube or TikTok do.
That doesn't mean people don't earn on Threads. The money just doesn't come from the platform.
Why there are no payouts
Threads launched in 2023 and is still growing as a place for conversation, not a content marketplace. Meta has experimented with bonus programs for creators in some countries, but those are targeted invitations, not open monetization.
You can't plan income counting on payouts from the platform. You have to count on what the audience brings on its own.
How people actually earn
Your own product or service. The most direct path: you're an expert, the account shows your competence, people come with orders. A lawyer, designer, tradesperson, tutor, shop — it works for anyone with something to sell.
Ads on your page. Once the audience is built, others pay for posts. The bar here is higher: an advertiser needs not a follower count but live response.
Affiliate programs. You recommend a service through your link and get a percentage of payments from people who came through you. Requires neither your own product nor a large audience — it's enough that people trust you.
Traffic to other platforms. Threads as a source of people for a Telegram channel, a website or a shop.
What you need in any case
All four paths come down to one thing: there have to be enough people, and they have to read.
Meanwhile a quarter of the platform's posts collect not a single like, and a third collect not a single reply. So simply publishing isn't enough: an account grows when its owner takes part in other people's conversations, not just writes on their own page.
Where to start if you have few followers
- Settle on a topic. An "about everything" account brings neither clients nor advertisers.
- Comment every day. It's the main way to grow on Threads: someone sees your reply under another post and comes to your profile.
- Get the profile in order. A name that makes clear who you are; a one-line bio; a few recent entries.
- Don't chase the number. A hundred people who read are worth more than a thousand fake ones: dead followers drag down the reach of live posts.
How long it takes
Months, not weeks — if you do it by hand and every day. The main load falls not on posts but on comments: thirty meaningful replies a day take two or three hours.
That's exactly why most people quit the platform before it starts bringing money.
